The Safety Precautions for Industrial Gas Cylinders
Cylinders or tanks are pressure vessels used to store and contain gases above atmospheric pressure. High-pressure cylinders are also called gas cylinders. In the industrial field, they are widely used in welding, medical applications, fermentation liquids, and several other applications in various industries. They are often used to store acetylene, oxygen, nitrogen, carbon dioxide, hydrogen, argon and helium, which are some of the gases that are often used in industrial fields. However, due to the different characteristics of these chemical gases, if they are not operated properly, these industrial gas cylinders may leak or even explode. As a gas cylinders manufacturer, I’d like to share some of the safety precautions for working with the industrial gas cylinders.

Proper Training and Understanding
You should always have training before working with gas cylinders and be confident you know what to do in an emergency, as well as how to handle them. In addition, operators should be familiar with the potential risks and hazards associated with compressed gas when handling compressed gas. For example, when handling oxygen cylinders or acetylene cylinders, it is very important to understand the characteristics of the filled gas, such as toxicity, flammability limit, and toxicity. In addition, it is also important to understand the hazards caused by the gas at low temperature, high pressure or due to the physical state of the gas (non-liquefied or liquefied, etc.). The staff should read the label on the cylinder. If the label is missing or difficult to read, cylinders should not be used.
Wear the Safety Equipment
This includes a hard hat, safety glasses, high visibility clothing, protective gloves and safety shoes or boots. Take a look at our range of workplace safety and protective equipment. Remember to also check if the site you are working on has any specific safety requirements and ensure you follow the advice.
Use Regulators Properly While Operating Cylinders
Regulators are devices, which are designed to lower the working pressure of the gas. These devices differ according to gases. Many times, the regulators aren’t operated and stored properly. This improper usage may lead to problems in the long run. It is important to take several precautions while using regulators. The following tips may help:
1.Use the right type of regulator for the gas cylinder.
2.If the connections aren’t properly made, perhaps you might be using the wrong device. Thus, it is wise to replace it with the right one.
3.Remove the regulator from the cylinder while transporting it to another location.
4.Close the valve of the cylinder, as well as release the pressure from the regulator, before removing it from a cylinder.
5.Take care to inspect the regulator before attaching to the cylinder.
Use Safe Lifting Technique and Handing Equipment
Don’t ever try and catch a falling cylinder — let them fall and move away from the direction of the impact. Using a proper handling equipment is important while handling the cylinder within the facility or transporting it to a different location. Always use proper Manifold Cylinder Pallets or cylinder trolleys when moving individual cylinders. If moved to a different location, then the vehicles or containers used for transporting must use the relevant Haz-chem code, MSDS, and TREMcards.
Inspection before Using Cylinders
To inspect the gas cylinder sign. A stored cylinder must be inspected for any signs of impact, discoloration, heat damage or other signs. When these signs appear, contact the manufacturer in time.
